National Monument or popularly abbreviated as Monas monument or memorial is as high as 132 meters (433 feet), which was established in memory of the resistance and the Indonesian people’s struggle for independence from Dutch colonial rule. Construction of the monument began on August 17, 1961 under the orders of the president Sukarno, and was opened to the public on July 12, 1975. Monas was built at 132 meters and yoni phallus-shaped. The entire building is covered by marble. At the top there is a cup topped with a bronze flame height of 17 meters and a diameter of 6 meters with a weight of 14.5 tons. Flame is coated with gold weighing 45 kg. Flame monument consists of 77 sections joined together. Top court breadth of 11×11 m. To reach the top court, visitors can use the lift with long travel about 3 minutes. All around there is a stair lift emergency. From the top of Monas, visitors can see the buildings of skyscrapers in the city. Even if the weather is fine, visitors can see Mount Salak in West Java and the Java Sea with the Thousand Islands. Under the court of the extent of 45X45 m. Height of the base under the monument to the court that is 17 meters. In this section visitors can see Monument Park which is a beautiful city forest. At the bottom of the monument there is a large room that is the National Museum. Height is 8 meters. The museum displays the history of the struggle of the Indonesian nation. The area of this museum is 80×80 m. On the fourth side there are 12 museum diorama (demonstration window) that displays the history of Indonesia from the era of the kingdoms of the ancestors of the Indonesian nation to G30S PKI.

The National Monument is located right in the center of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta. Monuments and museums are open every day starting at 08:00 to 15:00 pm. On Monday last week of each month is closed to the public.
