Katingan

Katingan Regency (Indonesian: Kabupaten Katingan) is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. The town of Kasongan is the capital of the Regency. The population of Katingan Regency was 146,439 at the 2010 Census, but the latest official estimate (as at January 2014) is 156,804. Katingan Regency consists of thirteen districts (kecamatan), tabulated below:

In the 14th century Katingan region is one of the colonies of Majapahit as mentioned in Kakawin Nagarakretagama, written in 1365. The name is taken from the name of the Katingan river area located at the upstream of the river, the area Katingan (Kasongan). Recently emerged a new area in the downstream, such as Mendawai.
