The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government reportedly suspended the introduction of Formula E in Jakarta. The electric car racing event, originally scheduled to take place on June 6, 2020, was postponed until an undetermined deadline.
The postponed understood from the Notification Letter provided by Kompas under No. 117/-1.857.73. The letter was sent to the Jakarta E-Prix Organizing Committee, which included a summary of the Formula E pause.
The contents of the letter are “Observing the development of COVID-19 in various parts of the world, especially in Jakarta, the implementation of Formula E which was originally scheduled for June 2020 to postpone its implementation”.
Under the letter was signed by DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. Formula E will be held in Jakarta on June 6, 2020. The plan is, the environmentally friendly car race will be held five years in a row from 2020 to 2024. The Formula E 2020 race route will cross the area within the Monas area and Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.
Later, asphalt will coat the natural stone inside Monas as a racing track. This asphalting is to adjust racing track standards according to those set by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) or the International Automotive Federation. Following FIA rules, the race track for Formula E must meet grade 3 standards, while for Formula 1, it uses grade 1 asphalt.
Meanwhile, until Tuesday (10/3/2020) afternoon, 27 people were declared positive patients of Covid-19 in Indonesia. Delays in Formula E in various countries Formula E is not only postponed in Jakarta. Some countries have postponed the event. Most recently, the organizer of the Formula E race announced the postponement for the racing series in Rome, Italy. Formula E Rome E-Prix becomes the umpteenth motorsport event that is affected by the increasingly widespread impact of the coronavirus outbreak in the world.
The Formula E racing series in Rome is supposed to take place on April 4. Rome is the second host city of Formula E, which has delayed racing schedules after Sanya, China. Italy is indeed one of the countries outside China with the most cases of coronavirus.
In addition to the Formula E racing series in Sanya and Rome, other motorsport events have also been delayed or canceled. These cancelation as a result of the coronavirus are the Formula 1 racing series in Shanghai, China, the Qatar and Thailand MotoGP series, and the opening series of the Super Formula racing season in Suzuka, Japan.
